Join the band! Here are three ways to accessorise your way to Christmas chic

Let’s get a grip this festive season

Boris has confirmed it – we’re allowed out this Christmas, but still with some restrictions. Having been locked down for the past month, we’re ready to go big (in a safe, socially distanced way, natch) and bling up our hair for those festive cocktails in the beer garden… oh and also on the office Zoom Christmas party, too. We need this!

So, who better to turn to than the Queen of Accessories herself, Ms Zoë Irwin, ghd ambassador and creative director at John Frieda Salons? We have her top tips on how to add fun and personality to your hair look by experimenting with hair accessories.

But first – the prep! Before accessorising, you must always prep the hair to ensure it holds well – you want grip, not slip! Start with ghd root lift spray to prevent any style from falling flat. Then style with the new ghd rise hot brush to get double the volume and give you that bounce. This is key even if you’re opting for a pony – it’ll give the accessories extra grip, and make your hair appear a lot fuller.

Now over to Zoë – what’s on the menu this Christmas?

The Party Crown

“Headbands will transform a simple hair look into the ultimate party do’. Whether you want to wear your hair down or tie it up, headbands work well for both long and short hair. Jewelled headbands are a big statement this season and will have you sparkling under the spotlight.”

Go Big with Bows

“This season, it is all about the bows – they have become much more oversized and playful; the bigger the bow, the better! What I really like about accessorising with a bow is being experimental with the different colours and textures. Adding a bow is such a great way to elevate any look and suits all occasions – parties, Christmas day with the family or even the boardroom! This will instantly add impact to any hair look – and is ideal if you are rushed for time but want to look like you’ve made an effort.”

Make a Statement

“Clips are big again this season and are a simple but effective way to add a statement to your hair look. Whether you want to opt for a bold worded clip or colourful bobby pins (as seen here at Olivia Rubin AW20), this will instantly add some impact to your look – and is ideal if you are rushed for time.”
