From the longstanding love for Rachel’s hair to the appreciation for Alice bands after Blair’s iconic looks, the hair styles seen on TV often influence our own strands. It’s unsurprising that when in need of new inspo, a binge-watched series is our go-to for trawling Pinterest pics. Last summer, I was influenced to try out a fringe after watching Normal People, but it seems there are four TV classics which influence our hair choices even more.

According to a study by Longevita Hair Transplants, the TV show serving the most hair inspo is Game of Thrones. With 30,604 pins and boards on Pinterest, braids have skyrocketed to the top with Daenerys’s strands giving us the ultimate hair envy. After Jennifer Anniston was named the biggest hair crush last year, it seems a little surprising that Emilia Clarke’s clan is reigning supreme, but braids are now TikTok’s biggest hair trend. “Braiding is super easy to incorporate into your daily hair routine,” says styling supremo James Earnshaw, who can be found perfecting looks in Birmingham’s chic Hazel & Haydn salon. “It’s great for the days in between a hair wash! If the hair has natural texture, try adding some individual braids into your pre-waved hair. Also, top up with dry shampoo.”

In second place things get majorly preppy, with millennial favourite Gossip Girl still proving popular. Those twee accessories? Yeah, you know you love them! is Blair Waldorf’s (many) headbands and Serena Van Der Woodsen’s luscious golden locks helped the show bring in 12,657 boards and pins combined. “That ’00s vibe is so huge right now!” says James. “Incorporating oversized headbands is great. Also think about using tools that will give your hair more of a flick and bounce than your regular beach wave.” With a Gossip Girl reboot currently in production, we suspect the new generation of the Upper East Side are going to be delivering even more inspo in the months to come…

Taking third place is is Sex and the City, proving that ’90s nostalgia is alive and kicking. Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte are still influencing hair looks with a total of 4,522 pins and boards. This is unsurprising given the reunion in the works (minus Samantha though). “I love the undone ’90s cool-girl vibe,” comments James. “Don’t over do it with this – embrace your natural texture as it shouldn’t look too styled!”

Taking it back to the ’70s, Charlie’s Angels comes in at fourth place with 3,817 pins and boards. The bouncy blow-out is everywhere on Instagram along with that iconic Farah Fawcett styling, so clearly the decade is providing inspiration post-lockdown. “It’s my favourite era!” exclaims James. “The hair is always dried away from the face, with shorter layers cut in around the front. Always go for the drama and flick it out at the ends when styling.”

Though it’s been the talk of the ‘Ton, Bridgerton came in at seventh, while The Queen’s Gambit scored ninth place. Most surprisingly, Friends had only 147 combined boards and pins. However, we know the power of ‘The Rachel’ is still felt way beyond Pinterest. For more of our top TV and celebrity hair crushes, click here.
