Dafni Allure cordless straightening brush

Want to beat your on-the-go hair woes? After the success of the original Dafni straightening brush, the new Dafni Allure cordless hot brush is here to give you straight and sleek hair wherever you are in the world. With no plug socket needed (or adaptors if you’re going global), this innovative design can straighten up to three heads of hair in one charge, meaning there’s plenty of styling opportunities to be had on your travels. With 3D, multi-length bristles, it’s easy to run through larger sections of hair – cutting down on styling time and giving you even more control over your tresses. Best of all, thanks to the ceramic technology which coats each of the bristles, your guaranteed snag-free smoothness which will last the day.

BaByliss PRO Titanium Express Pro large hot brush

Different to other paddle style hot brushes, the BaByliss PRO Titanium Express hot brush takes the shape of a large 50mm premium titanium barrel, making it easier than ever to create a smooth finish with dramatic volume and shape. Unlike traditional straighteners, the barrel design ensures that as well as smoothing, the hot brush adds shine, shape and lift without flattening the hair. Great for all hair textures and lengths, the super ionic conditioners deliver exceptional frizz-control for flawless results, while the ceramic technology gives an ultra-fast heat up time – ideal for those early mornings!

ghd glide professional hot brush

Perfect for post-salon styling and second day hair, ghd’s first professional hot brush eliminates frizz, so hair is transformed in just a few quick strokes. With ceramic technology to heat the brush to the optimum styling temperature of 185ºC, the brush is effective and quick to use, while delivering beautiful, healthy looking hair. With a combination of shorter and longer bristles, it’s easy to style large sections of hair for a salon smooth finish with tonnes of natural movement. The glide is also great for finishing touches, like creating a sleek pony or up do, as well as being a must-have tool if you’re wanting to smooth natural texture.

For anyone who hasn’t caught my previous Salon Solved It, when it comes to my morning routine I’ve long been reliant on straighteners. So, when the ghd glide landed, it’s fair to say I was pretty excited! To put the glide through its paces, I decided to use the hot brush on one half of my head, and the original ghd IV styler for the other.

Side by side

On first glance, the glide does take slightly longer to heat up, with no sound to notify you when it has reached optimum temperature (not a major issue – just something to note.) With time being limited in the mornings, there’s few spare minutes to section my hair properly with dividers, so the glide is the perfect tool for running through larger sections of hair. Essentially, it does what it says on the tin – it glides through hair quickly, smoothing odd kinks and waves and leaving my hair looking smoother and feeling far softer than it did before. Taking just a couple of minutes to run through the right side of my tresses, it was great for taming my thick hair, but leaving it with volume and natural movement.

If you’re looking to achieve poker straight lengths, it’s still worth holding onto your beloved straightening irons – the glide is best for quick touch-ups and styling second-day hair. Of course, on my left side I was able to create a straighter finish, but it also took longer to run through with irons. If you want to smooth your strands on a day-to-day basis, I’d recommend a hot brush. When it comes to special occasions or when time is on your side, the straightening iron is still your loyal friend, but with both in your arsenal you have endless styling opportunities (and maybe an extra five minutes in bed!)
