Spotlight Salon – Adam Reed London

A favourite of beauty editors and A-listers, Adam Reed has now unveiled his very own space in London’s East End. And yes it’s a hair salon, but there’s so much more inside…

Adam Reed London, Spitalfields

Nestled down the side of Christ Church Spitalfields in an old tomato importer, you’ll find Adam Reed London, what Adam describes as “a curated hair and lifestyle space, more creative hub than traditional hair salon”. And he’s not wrong; it’s a warm and welcoming space that is also stuffed to the gills with amazing hair talent.

Aside from Adam himself (who is global brand ghd ambassador and UK editorial ambassador for L’Oréal Professionnel, so he knows his stuff), there’s 2019 It List It Girl Sarah Black (a proper amazing colourist), 2019 It List Fashionista Tom Gilling and Adam’s right hand man Ryan Steedman, who’s often working backstage with Adam on TV shows such as The X Factor and at London Fashion Week. So you know your hair is in very good hands.

Adam has chosen some of his favourite artists to work with on the salon’s interior, from House of Hackney fabrics to Jamie Gaunt Wooden Objects, and there’s an emphasis on reclaimed furniture. It also takes its cues from the vintage shops Adam loves – a display cabinet houses Adam’s curation of favourite beauty, lifestyle and grooming products. Think Saint fragrances, Lisa Eldridge lipsticks and Diptyque tuberose candles. “I want the space to offer beautiful comfort and an element of curiosity,” explains Adam. “A place that is fun, but envelops you and makes you feel at ease at home.”

But back to the hair. We know he’s very much celebrating the Bounce Back Blonde post-lockdown, but he’s not a stylist driven by trends. “I just firmly believe that there’s no ‘one size fits all’ – it’s all about creating personality in your hair,” he says.

“My clients aren’t massively bothered by what’s ‘on trend’. Choosing a style is more than just your hair type and face shape. It’s about thinking about whether you’re low or high maintenance, whether you need to look a certain way for work, even what music you’re into. I don’t ever want a client’s hair only to look good for 20 minutes when they leave the shop.” So you’ll get a hairstyle/lifestyle consultation alongside lessons in heat styling and product recommendations to find the genius picks that will help you maintain that look you love.

“I’ve tried to take all of the things I love, from service to product to design and incorporate them all into one big happy place that gives you great hair and a big smile on your face,” he grins. We can get on board with that!
