There’s a bob for all faces, to be sure, but this effortless ‘French Girl Bob’ is our pick of the season. Read on for how to pull off the look with that signature Parisian je ne sais quoi…
A French Girl Bob, or Parisian Bob, is somehow both a statement look and a slinky, effortless style. Sitting high on the face, cut either to cheekbones or to the chin, this cute-yet-sexy dishevelled bob is all over Tik Tok, thanks in part to The Hair Bros (who reference all sorts of ’90s influences for this look – Winona Ryder, eat your heart out).
Callum Standen-May, co-owner of StandenMay in Norwich, is both a cutting expert and influencer himself, so if anyone knows what’s hot, it’s him! “It’s such a chic hairstyle at the minute and the key to the look is that it’s cut bluntly, and significantly shorter than the average chin length bob; instead it hits around your cheekbone area, or just under. This look will really enhance your facial features and give structure to your face, particularly when worn super sleek.”
The short length really brings attention to both cheekbones and eyes, and it is a firm favourite of Siobhan Jones, creative director at Blush + Blow London, as well. “My favourite kind of bobs at the moment are Parisian bobs; super sharp and super chic. Worn best with a fringe but can look just as good without one, Taylor LaShae wears it perfectly.”
She does, however, warn that you should stick to a style that suits your face shape. “Heart face shapes look awesome with Parisian Bobs, as they add weight around the jawline which is really complimentary. whereas those with square face shapes may want to avoid anything too heavy or weighty along the jawline and opt for softer edges and a bob that sits above or below the jaw and more like a midi bob.”
Jason Cocking, co-owner of 4 Theatre Hair Square in Swindon, has a great tip for making your French Girl Bob look very natural and easy: “My number one advice when it comes to bobs is always match your Bob to your hair parting, it makes a massive difference. I love this French Bob trend, it’s very undone and great on wavy hair – even add a fringe.”
Callum’s favourite styling product for this look is the R+Co Tinsel Smoothing Oil. “It can be used before using heated styling tools to prevent damage and gives your hair a beautiful shine whilst getting rid of frizz and flyaways. However, this haircut also looks incredible worn messier with the help of a texture spray or salt spray being scrunched into damp hair, or tousled with heated styling irons to create soft, relaxed waves for an effortless, trendy finish.”
Karoliina Saunders of Karoliina Saunders Hair Design is really digging the classic ‘90s supermodel references right now, and this look slots in perfectly. “Loving the ‘90s influences, so curling your bobs – of all shapes and lengths – under is super cool right now, but I’m also digging that soft, natural, almost unkempt texture,” she adds.
