Curls, cocktails and must-have hair care! Find out what went down at Layered’s Big Hair Do 2021

Seacombe and Co, Chichester

Our annual Big Hair Do returned on Wednesday 29 September as 100 salons across the UK and Ireland opened their doors to style the nation. Let’s see what they got up to…

After the past 18 months, it was SO good to get out and celebrate with friends, as well as picking up some top hair tips from the pros. From prosecco bars to photo booths, the Big Hair Do 2021 brought ALL the fun, and then some! With the help of some very cute four-legged friends, hair salons across the UK and Ireland proved once more that they really do know how to throw a party.

Events across the nation saw salons styling up a storm and serving up some delicious nibbles from local businesses. Over at Sallyanne’s Hair and Beauty Salon in Knypersley, there was even an oh-so-stylish outdoor gin and prosecco bar serving bespoke beverages from a converted horse box called The Giddy Aunt.

Not only was there a LOT of fun and fizz on offer, the Big Hair Do 2021 gave guests the chance to try a new style, experience exciting new services AND try out new products and treatments. Not surprisingly, with party season fast approaching, Hollywood waves and and big, bouncy curls were very popular, providing SO much hair inspo for the next night out.

As well as gorgeous curls, braid bars were another styling staple for guests across the land. A chance to master a technique and see the pros in action, at Seacombe and Co in Chichester, there were even handy tutorials on offer – perfect for mastering a plait or two!

For those with tresses needing a little TLC, there was a Salonlab Smart Analyser in action at Schwarzkopf Professional salons, giving clients a  truly personalised consultation. This proved particularly popular at Kroma in Glasgow, where guests could discover more about the Fibre Clinix products that would work for their strands.

And the fun didn’t stop there, with a wide range of extra activities and pampering opportunities taking place! At Jelajo in Cardiff, clients enjoyed Schwarzkopf Professional Oil Ultime well-being treatments at the backwash, to help them de-stress. There was a choice of relaxing lavender and jasmine or energising ylang ylang and mandarin, spritzed over the hair and combined with a head massage. We’re not jealous at all!

Meanwhile at Ed’s Hair in Stockport, the party was in full swing with an incredible performance from Viva Brasil Samba Show. Similarly, at Collective Hairdressing in Newcastle, guests were treated to a live DJ set from Hollie Disco Dollie; we’re sure nobody wanted the hair party to end!

A party wouldn’t be a party without tasty eats and delicious drinks. Sorbie Hayes in East Kilbride partnered with local business, Cakes and Bakes, to serve up some delicious cupcakes, while Watkins Wright in Boroughbridge and Great Ayton teamed up with Wren’s Nibbles to offer something super sweet to all their guests. New salon, November Collective near Edinburgh, also arranged an incredible feast for their Big Hair Do, featuring a grazing board which was SO Instagrammable!

To carry on the hair experience at home, every Big Hair Do guest was given a swoon-worthy goodie bag, packed full of Schwarzkopf Professional products to sample, as well as gifts from local businesses and irresistible offers for blow dries, colour services and new client appointments.
