Looking to enhance your natural colour? Le streak, c’est chic! Award-winning colourist Sarah Black shares how
It’s been one of the hottest colour trends among celebrities, with the likes of Chrissy Teigen, Michelle Visage and Richard Madden sporting the look. Now the mallen streak has made its way to the high street. Whether you’re looking to add a little interest to your natural shade, or are a blonde looking to experiment with colour, consider this a celebrity-approved colour trend to try the next time you visit your salon.
“The mallen streak is perfect for those that want a lower maintenance look,” explains Sarah Black, creative stylist at Adam Reed London. “It’s great for anyone who is happy to welcome those greys, but isn’t ready to ditch the tint just yet,” she adds. After years of onyx black locks, Sarah says that Michelle Visage is the prime example of this. “She is rocking a hint of her natural colour by introducing a silver mallen streak, which sits in front of her signature black, and it looks so good!”
With salons shut once more across England and a tiered system in action in Scotland, many of us are experiencing more regrowth than normal, so now is a great time to embrace the grey(s) and start the transition to a new look. “One of my clients has been (reluctantly) lightening her dark tint over the last couple of years for a lower maintenance life. After seeing her beautiful, natural silver growing in during the first lockdown, she wanted a way to own it without losing all her depth,” explains Sarah. Enter the mallen streak!
“We decided to keep it high contrast for a bit of drama, so I created a gorgeous silver to sit over the parting section, with a cool, dark tone to sit underneath it. Through the sides I alternated woven pieces of the silver and dark. Think Christina Aguilera circa 2002 . . . but EXPENSIVE!”
