Will you take the platinum plunge in 2018? And does Katy Perry inspire you to hit the salon? Here’s what UK women think about hair colour, according to a survey by L’Oréal Professionnel
Kylie J has done it, as has Kim Kay-Dubs. Will you be sporting gorgeous grey lengths in 2018? According to a survey by L’Oréal Professionnel of 3,000 UK women, the grey hair trend is on the up. Nearly four in 10 (38 per cent) women say platinum is the new blonde, with 28 per cent embracing or considering silver/platinum for their hair colour (no wonder L’Oréal Professionnel Silver Shampoo sales soared 55 per cent when compared to 2016!).
But who are the A-listers influencing UK women’s hair colour choice? Let’s take a look…
- Katy Perry
- Helen Mirren
- HRH Duchess of Cambridge
- Kim Kardashian West
- Rita Ora
- Elle Goulding
- Kate Hudson
- Kylie Jenner
Indeed, Katy’s hit the bleach BIG time this year, so we get it. Love that Helen Mirren’s toe in pinkier waters gets some love too! We are all taking colour a LOT more seriously (and having more fun – you’ve only got to see all those unicorn shades on Instagram!), and much of that might be down to the fact that 62 per cent of the women polled say it makes them feel more confident.
But why is this the case now? Sally Brooks, co-founder of London’s Brooks & Brooks, has a theory: “Women are wearing their hair longer, and therefore haircuts have become less of a statement,” she says. “Instead hair colour is being used as a tool for expressing individuality.”
We couldn’t agree more! And the key element is that much of this colour experimentation needs the hands of a clever colourist in a salon to make it look awesome, rather than risking your result with an at-home DIY box. May your 2018 be more colourful than ever!0
